Brow Lift in Atlanta, GA

Brow Lift in Atlanta and Sandy Springs

Are you looking to refresh your appearance and restore a bright-eyed, vibrant look? Brow lifting, also known as a brow lift or forehead lift, is a powerful rejuvenative procedure which can stand alone or be combined with other facial aesthetic treatments for overall facial balancing.   This popular cosmetic procedure offers a range of benefits that can restore and transform your entire facial aesthetic.

A Brighter Look with
Brow Lift Surgery

As Shakespeare described, the eyes are the window to your soul. And to make them sparkle, they deserve a beautiful frame. This is where brow lift surgery comes in—it’s like giving your face a fabulous picture frame to show off your eyes and face at their best!

Brow lifting procedures are often combined with eyelid lifting (also known as blepharoplasty), facial fat grafting, CO2 laser and peel skin resurfacing, and facelifting for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

I've been a long-time patient of Dr. Fishman's and she has always treated me well. Recently, I opted to have a brow lift which brightened my entire appearance. The aftercare following the surgery was so great and personalized, and I love my result!

Heavy brows or forehead can contribute to a sad, tired, or disinterested appearance and forehead wrinkles. Heavy brows can hang over the eyes and eyelids, decreasing the light entering the eyes and sometimes contributing to chronic headaches in individuals who lift their brows continuously by contracting the forehead muscles. In aesthetic terms, brow contouring can “open up” the eyes and frame the face; this treatment can also make people look less tired and angry by addressing frown and forehead lines. Functionally, some people may experience fewer headaches and less muscle fatigue after repositioning overly heavy brows.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?

Can Brow Lifting Be Performed By Itself?

Yes, brow contouring can be a standalone procedure.  This treatment can be done on its own, or it can be combined with other forms of facial contouring, such as eyelid surgery, facelifting, rhinoplasty, skin resurfacing, and fat transfer. Each person’s individual anatomy and treatment goals dictate the type of brow contouring Dr. Fishman selects, and whether this treatment is combined with any other procedures.

Brow Lift vs.
Eyelid Surgery

While often misunderstood as the same procedure, brow contouring and eyelid surgery (aka blepharoplasty) are different and distinct surgical treatments. Unlike eyelid surgery, brow lifts are designed to lift the skin and tissues above the eyebrow and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and creases along one’s forehead. Some forms of brow contouring focus on the central or outer forehead, the inner or outer (or both) brows, and the brow fat pad (area below the brow tail which some individuals like to accentuate with highlighter).  By lifting sagging or asymmetrical brows, brow contouring surgery can help rejuvenate a person’s appearance while helping him or her look less tired or angry, and more alert and approachable.  In contrast, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) addresses sagging skin or bags at the upper and lower eyelids; blepharoplasty is often combined with brow lifting to contour the tissues around the eyes holistically.

Which Type Of Brow Lift Is Right For Me?

At Aviva Plastic Surgery, your treatment journey begins with a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Inessa Fishman, during which you will discuss concerns and long-term objectives, and explore all available options for reaching your aesthetic goals. Because aesthetic goals and anatomy vary widely, Dr. Fishman customizes treatments plans and brow contouring procedures for each individual patient.

Some individuals need procedures additional to a brow lift to achieve their results, while others do not need brow lifting at all.  There are different types of brow and forehead contouring treatments, including temporal or outer brow lifting, endoscopic brow lifting, forehead shortening and hairline lowering procedures, and more, and our facial plastic surgeon Dr. Inessa Fishman has extensive expertise in all these procedures.

Brow Lift FAQ's

No, brow lifting surgery does not involve pain, as it performed with numbing medication (local anesthetic) in combination with by-mouth relaxing medication or general anesthesia. Most patients describing brow lift recovery report mild-moderate discomfort and sometimes a headache, with these symptoms being well-managed with Tylenol and Motrin.

The results of brow contouring are long-lasting and often life-long.  Some individuals may need an additional tuck-up or recontouring depending on their anatomy, genetics, and facial aging changes.

The risks of brow lift surgery include bleeding, bruising, infection, unsatisfactory appearance, scarring, hair loss, numbness, or need for further treatment. The chance of complications after brow lifting surgery is low, and we take many careful precautions to make brow lifting surgery and recovery a smooth process.

Brow lifting and contouring procedures are considered cosmetic, and are not typically covered by insurance. While we do not work with insurance in our practice, we work hard to make treatments affordable by offering a number of financing options.

Get Ready for a Smooth Recovery After Your Brow Lift:

Make sure you have these items before treatment:

  • Regular Strength Tylenol
  • Benadryl, to help you rest and reduce swelling
  • The medicines your doctor has prescribed for you
  • Cotton swabs (Q-tips) for gentle cleaning
  • Hydrogen peroxide for cleaning incisions
  • Music and podcasts you love, and some fun shows to watch

The night before your surgery:

  • Enjoy a dinner with lots of protein; this helps with healing and not feeling hungry before surgery.
  • If you need to, take Benadryl or Melatonin to get a good night’s sleep.

On your surgery day:

  • Wear a shirt that buttons up and shoes you can slip on.
  • Avoid hair products; makeup; and facial skincare and moisturizers.

After your surgery:

  • For the first two days, sit up as much as possible.  Limit physical activity to walking only.
  • Sleep with the head of your bed elevated with 1-2 pillows (or head above the level of the heart).
  • Only take the medicines your doctor has prescribed you. Eating protein-filled and fatty foods with your prescriptions can help decrease nausea and stomach upset.  Take Colace or Miralax as needed should you experience constipation.
  • You can have a shower and wash your hair gently the day after surgery.
  • Expect to look puffy and bruised about your forehead and eyes; this will get better in a few days to weeks.
  • Dr. Fishman will take out your stitches after ~5-7 days.
  • Dress in clothes that zip or button up from the front or back for the first week. Glasses are ok to use, but wait on contact lenses until cleared by Dr. Fishman.
  • Avoid touching, scratching, and stretching your incisions for two weeks.
  • No heavy lifting, gym classes, or sports for three weeks.
  • Stop smoking and stay away from nicotine for 6 weeks before and after your surgery.
  • As you heal, you might notice one side of your forehead looks different from the other. Don’t worry, this is usually a temporary side-effects of swelling and healing.
  • You may drive as long as you are taking only Tylenol and Motrin for pain, and your vision is not excessively blurry.
  • Stay out of the sun for 6 weeks. When you go out, wear a hat and sunscreen with at least SPF 30.
